E.T. Phone Home

Ok, you’ve got the location down, but how can clients reach you? And how can you take care of the many offline things there are still to do? Yes, you need a phone, and perhaps more than one.

When phones were expensive and Ma Bell was the only game in town, people with home–based businesses often used their personal line for business. I remember as a teen being instructed by my Mom to always answer the phone with her business name, as if I were the secretary. But those days are gone. Adding landlines is inexpensive, answering machines are almost free, and there are many additional “types of phones” now. In fact, you may opt out of using a landline altogether, and use a business cell phone, internet phone service, or even a satellite phone.

For phone services, convenience (for you and your clients) as well as cost dictates what’s appropriate.
