b[0]="An attorney based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Chris has been in the high-tech industry since 1979 as a writer, publisher, and consultant.  He focuses his law practice on the areas of small business, estate planning, real estate, Internet, e-commerce, and intellectual property law. Chris has written on a variety of computer-related topics. He is a regular speaker at STC annual, regional and chapter conferences. An STC Fellow, Chris is has served the Society at all levels, including president of the Southeastern Michigan chapter and Assistant to the President for Special Interest Committees. He is the founding manager of STC's Consulting and Independent Contracting Special Interest Committee.";
b[1]="Karen was Manager of the Consulting and Independent Contracting SIG from 1994 to 1998.  During her tenure in this position the membership grew to over 2000 strong and made the transition to the digital age.  Karen sponsored CICSIG progressions at the national conference and developed the newsletter into a “must read” for all independent contractors.  She began the membership “rates survey” that has now become the standard for the Society.  She has gone on to other important duties in STC, but her contributions to the independent contractors membership remains.";
b[2]="Susan started her work on the CIC SIG newsletter, Independent Perspective, in early 1991 (Spring 1991 issue) as the Layout Editor and Designer. She continued in that capacity until she became the Editor in mid-1992 (Fall 1992 issue). Under her leadership, the newsletter came out each quarter without fail, regardless of how late contributors sent her their articles. Susan continued to serve unflaggingly as Editor and Managing Editor through the Winter 1997 issue. She brought the newsletter from a 6-page format through an evolution to a 12-page format, with each issue chock full of informative articles that continue to offer value to SIG members from our archives.";

Dr. Senzel also has a background in toxicological risk assessment, visible emissions method development, air emissions standards, RCRA waste analysis requirements, and AOAC official methods of analysis.";

Betsy holds a Masters degree in speech and hearing from Washington University. She teaches technical writing at the Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Science in St. Louis, Missouri. She is an Associate Fellow of the Society for Technical Communication (STC), co-editor of Consulting Success, the online newsletter of the Association of Professional Communication Consultants (APCC), and a member of Clarity.";

b[8]="Deborah, founding partner of dgh enterprises, is an expert in developing integrated, knowledge-centered programs, services, and products. She is passionate about creating opportunities that support success for the real people who use her solutions. Deborah began her career as a Special Education teacher in Oakland Unified School District. From there she continued in the K-12 education field as an editor for CTB/McGraw-Hill where she developed diagnostic assessment tools and wrote ancillary instructional support products for teachers and parents. Following that, Deborah moved into high-tech where she became a product manager for Jostens Learning Corporation responsible for the definition, development, and deployment of multimedia learning programs for students in grades K-8. Over the intervening years, Deborah migrated her career away from the education market into the B2B space where she has held senior management positions and has guided the efforts of teams responsible for Customer Support, Product Documentation, Client Training, and Product Design and Usability. In 1994 Deborah launched dgh enterprises and since then has leveraged her extensive background in information products, process improvement, and management to help her clients succeed. Deborah is currently on the Board of Directors for the San Diego chapter of CHI and serves on the Advisory Committee for National University. She is also a founding member of the national expansion of the User Experience group (formerly the GUI SIG of the SD Software Industry Council). In her spare time, Deborah hikes lesser-known trails throughout San Diego county, plays tennis, and serves as a behind-the-plate target for her softball team.";

She has a Master's Degree in Library Science and a degree in anthropology, and worked as a librarian and a desktop publisher for many years before turning to indexing and taxonomies. She's abandoned big city life to live in the mountains of New Mexico with her husband Chris and three silly cats, and loves to watch the ravens gather at sunset. Kit is an Associate Fellow for the Society for Technical Communication (STC), and has spoken about various technical communication topics at several conferences in the United States and internationally.";

Rhonda now owns her own company (CyberText Consulting http://www.cybertext.com.au) focusing on technical writing, training, and editing for clients in all sorts of industries. She has been a technical writer 'officially' since 1997, and became one of the first two AuthorIT Certified Consultants in 2003. His consulting career includes work in Lubbock and New York as a freelance procedural writer for the medical office system and hybrid microprocessor industries.  He is co-editor if the collection of essays entitled Getting Started in Consulting and Independent Contracting (1998), and has edited a special issue of Technical Communication on independent consulting. He served as Manager of the Consulting and Independent Contractor's SIG from 1998 to 2003. His academic career has been spent at Texas Tech University, in the Technical Communication program, where he currently serves as Director of Technical Communication.  He has edited a collection of essays on software documentation entitled New Perspectives on Software Documentation (1989) and is author of Writing Software Documentation: A Task-Oriented Approach (Second edition, 2003).  His current academic interests include technical communication pedagogy and multicultural approaches to technical communication. He is the recipient of the STC J. R. Gould Award for Excellence in Teaching (2005). He is currently serving as Manager of the STC Academic Community, which he founded in 2005.";
