How to create the Confirm, Hello, and Bye documents

Please note that the document "How to welcome new members (or send a news message to all members) and simultaneously invite members to join the list" explains how to create the Confirm and Hello documents to welcome new members and invite them to join the list (Confirm) and welcome new subscribers (Hello).

Some list managers use the Confirm and Hello messages in other ways, and these instructions are generic.

The Bye document is sent by the list server when members unsubscribe.

  1. Log in to the list.
  2. Click List Admin > Documents.
  3. Click Create Document. In the Name field, enter SIGname_Confirm for a news message or SIGname_Confirm-first-of-month for the message to welcome new members to the SIG. Enter SIGname_Hello for the document to be sent to new list subscribers after they click reply and accept the invitation to subscribe. Enter SIGname_Bye for the document to send when member unsubscribe.
  4. Select the Type: Confirm, Hello, or Bye. The other types are used for filters, although sitewide filters work better and are available for all needed purposes.
  5. In the Title field, enter the subject of the email you want to send. Include the SIG name and imperative verb "reply" if the message is a Confirm message.
  6. Enter the message in the Body field.
  7. Click Save.

You have been unsubscribed from the STC Quality and Process Improvement
SIG discussion list.

You may want to consider re-subscribing and setting your status to
"nomail". This will let you read and respond to messages on your own time,
via the web interface, instead of getting everything by email. If you have
questions, contact the list administrator at owner-stcqsig-l@lists.stc.org.

If you believe you are still a member of the SIG, please write to
