How to read the email list digest even if it contains HTML

STC member Katherine Hinchey devised a way to read
the digest, even if the list does not reject HTML and non-trimmed messages.

The digest normally includes each message posted as a regular message, and immediately afterwards as a fully tagged version. That is because list servers can process only plain text, and not formatted messages.

If you take the digest and do not want to scroll through all the code to read the messages:

  1. Copy the digest and paste it into MS Word.
  2. Search for the string "X-Message-Number:" and Replace all instances with
"X-Message-Number:" formatted as Heading 1 and preceded and followed by a paragraph mark.
  3. View the Document Map and click each heading to read each message. Scroll up to see the poster and the subject. Read only the first message at each heading. The rest is footers, untrimmed messages, and HTML code.
