Where
Hyperviews:Online gets to hear from nice people like you!
Response to the spring issue

Your archive should now be complete!

I have attached a copy of the first online version of HyperViews which was distributed in the Winter of 1994 (BTW your present web has it as "1995").

Managing Editor Mary Deaton and Alec Sonenthal asked me to assemble the articles she and Alec had gathered and compile them into Winhelp. I designed the format and navigation scheme and compiled it using RoboHelp v2.6. At first it was distributed from my HyperTexas website. Later, Mary and Cheryl Lockett-Zubak featured screenshots of HyperViews in their popular book, "Designing Windows 95 Help".

Here's a quick look at the content: Mary Ann Johnson wrote about a strange new hypertext phenomena called the World Wide Web, Bill Meisheid did a book review, Pete Davis revealed some undocumented macros, I did a Winhelp multimedia story, Jack DeLand did a Doc-to-Help/RoboHelp shootout, Neil Perlin offered editing tips, Mary Deaton did a column as the editor, Michelle Ratcliffe welcomed readers on behalf of the STC Online PIC and the first Winwriters conference was announced.

(Tech note. There is an odd blue palette flash which corrects itself as the user navigates past the opening topic.) It seems a bit old-fashioned now, but a lot has happened in almost 7 years.

Enjoy a bit of history!
Thanx,

John, thanks very much for completing the Hyperviews:Online archive! I remember the first issue of HyperViews, but not where I put it. Without an issue to review, we weren't clear when it published. The WinHelp file is now available from the Hyperviews:Online archives and it is listed with the correct publication date.

I am a member of the online SIG and also the newsletter editor for the Toronto chapter.

Congratulations on your STC Award of Excellence for Hyperviews:Online! As a chapter newsletter editor for the past two years, I have a good idea of how much work goes into putting out such an excellent publication.

Can I ask a small favor? Could you please send me the correct URL for the latest issue? I accidentally deleted the email that corrected the address.

Thanks,
Deanna Dunn

Thank you, Deanna!!! The Hyperviews:Online staff works really hard to produce this newsletter. We're all volunteers and have lots of other responsibilities outside of Hyperviews:Online. We really appreciate your kind words.

Our URL is stc.org/pics/online/hyperviews/

Thanks for reading Hyperviews:Online!!!
