SIG Manager’s Message

By SCOTT DELOACH
International SIG Manager
Atlanta Chapter

Happy Holidays

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and new year. In fact, a great New Year’s resolution would be to do something with the SIG! We're a fun group (really!), and we'd love to welcome some new faces. I’ve listed a few “opportunities” for you below.

Embedded Help Articles

We still need 2-3 more articles for our planned Embedded Help edition of Technical Communication. If you are interested, please send me a potential title and short description/abstract of the article. If you want to bounce some ideas around, that’s fine too! You can reach me at scott@userfirst.net.

“How Did You Hear About the WWW?”

Next issue we will be featuring stories about your first experiences with the Web. If you would like to participate, just send us a short description about where you were working, what you were doing, what you thought about it, and so forth. You can send ’em to me at Scott@userfirst.net.

Join Our Team!

Want to get involved? We are looking to fill the following positions:

Glossary Team Member
The glossary team (check out their work on our Online Information Glossary) is looking for team members. Team members write (or find) short definitions of common Internet- and Help-related terms.

Columnist
Write (or have others write) one article per quarter focussing on a specific area of online communication. We are open to suggestions, but some potential columns could be:

  • HTML-based help
  • Web technologies
  • Online design
  • Various product tips and tricks
  • Web site reviews (pick a site and review it)
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Multimedia

Special Offers Coordinator
Solicit and post special offers for online information-related products (conferences, books, software, services, and so forth).

Interested? Send me an e-mail at Scott@userfirst.net. Also, we are looking for articles for our next issue. Hyperviews:Online is your chance to reach over 5,000 online information developers!

In Your Neighborhood

As many of you know, over 20 chapters have a local Online SIG. If your chapter doesn’t have an Online SIG and you want to start one, let me know. I would really like to help — especially with non-US chapters. I know you’re out there! And for all you chapter-level Online SIG leaders — Thanks for all of your hard work!

If you are looking for online information-related events in your area, check out the following two pages in this issue of Hyperviews:Online:

Brian Curtis is doing an excellent job gathering and maintaining this information. Thanks, Brian!

Scott DeLoach is the Manager of the Online Information SIG. In his spare time, he is a Founding Partner of User First Services, an Atlanta-based consulting and training firm. He loves to receive e-mail about the Online SIG at Scott@userfirst.net.
