What a year!

Wow...1999 has been a busy year for the SIG! We have seen our newsletter, Hyperviews:Online, become a model online newsletter for the Society, we have added our members-only special offers, new chapter-level Online SIGs have been formed, and, as always we had a great time at the Annual Conference! Below is a short summary of SIG events and accomplishments for 1999.

Hyperviews: Online

Our team of dedicated Hyperviews:Online volunteers has grown to over 20 people, under the tireless (and always pleasant!) direction of Karen Mobley. Karen has been doing a great job editing our newsletter. Thanks, Karen! Also, thanks to Judy Fisher for volunteering to serve as assistant editor!

Hyperviews:Online is now on a consistent quarterly schedule, and I think we are seeing some outstanding articles. We are also averaging 800 unique visitors/month! This year, we indexed all of our past newsletters (print and online) with help from the Indexing SIG.

Membership

Our membership is up almost 200% (3,750 members and counting!) We have members in over 29 countries. In fact, over 10% of our members live outside of North America.

Annual conference events

At the Annual Conference, I passed out over 500 "Online SIG Member" buttons to members. At the SIG luncheon, I had a chance to meet many of our members and gather new ideas for the SIG. Many of your suggestions are being implemented now and will be unveiled next year.

Karen Mobley and I also presented a session about Hyperviews:Online. We discussed why we moved online, issues involved, design decisions faced, and ideas about the newsletter's future.

Looking ahead

Our goals for next year are to increase our "members-only" benefits, to continue building international membership, and to create an online membership database. We are also considering a SIG chat room, and a special event at the annual conference. As always, please send me an e-mail at scott@userfirst.net if you would like to volunteer.
