ASQ expands certification for quality managers

In March, 2006 the American Society for Quality Certified Quality Manager program will be renamed, to align with the expanding role of the quality manager.

With the approval of the ASQ Certification Board, the Certified Quality Manager exam will become the Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) exam, effective with administration of the exam in March 2006.

The Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) is a professional who leads and champions process improvement initiatives in business. These initiatives may have a regional or global scope in industry or service.

A CMQ/OE facilitates and leads team efforts to establish and monitor customer and supplier relations. The CMQ/OE also supports strategic planning and deployment, helps develop measurement systems, and otherwise leads and contributes to organizational improvement. Needed skills include the capability to motivate and evaluate staff, manage projects and human resources, analyze financial situations, determine and evaluate risk, and employ knowledge management tools and techniques in resolving organizational challenges.
