Technical Writer

I am technical writer with Webaroo (www.webaroo.com).
Product help and messaging helps me earn my bread and butter. Providing
usability inputs and managing the customer support and localization functions
gets me cakes and pastries :-).
I love to write - whether it be user manuals, error messages, fiction,
poetry, or resignation letters (I write them for my friends too). I blog
here - www.sheece.com
and here about technical writing www.sheece.com/tw
Hoping to interact with you all and learn & share.

I fell into usability and as a result, technical writing while working
on the "dark side" as a software engineer. I tried to instill
usability into our user interface designs, but was over-turned by management.
I became discouraged with this obvious disregard for "customer service"
and decided I needed a change. I was offered my current position and thought
that it sounded like fun since I got to work on websites, etc.. Soon I
realized that part of what we "communicators" do is usability.
So, I found my way in the back door only this time with much better support!!
I have now taken over as webmaster for our website here (Thanks, Whitney!)
and hope that the future holds opportunities for collaboration and discovery.
I am very excited to be a part of this community and hope to hear from
you all.
In my "spare" time, I love to quilt, make jewelry, and create
stained glass. I also work as an advocate for the disabled in the state
of Michigan.

- My background….I have a diverse perspective and a
broad exposure to the nformation systems industry, with more than 25
years of professional experience in the financial sector, in positions
ranging from technical support to middle management.
- What kind of work interests me? My goal is to work
in the user interface design field, performing task and use case analysis,
to help create a seamless client workflow. My 13+ years in information
architecture, customer analysis, and project management with Visa helped
me to become a natural user advocate, with a repertoire of projects
mostly comprised of new product offerings. As a result of working with
beta software versions, I have been exposed to numerous opportunities
to provide Usability Evaluations, in addition to creating and updating
content for Help and user documentation.
- My academic achievements and certifications….I have
a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Notre Dame de Namur University
in Belmont, California. I am also newly certified with Human Factors
International, Inc. as a Certified Usability Analyst (C.U.A.). In addition,
I have completed 6 hours towards my Masters in Information Studies (MSIS)
at the University of Texas at Austin to acquire the academic expertise
that will compliment my practical skills, and pave the way to a stimulating
career in User Experience and Usability.
- My passion for user-centric software….My work at
Visa in the User Interface Center of Excellence helped to spread the
word that user-centric software is at the forefront of successful product
and service offerings. As an information architect, I am motivated daily
to be part of a movement that draws from untold amounts of data and
breaks it down to essential bite-sized pieces. Studying users and information
architecture has been my passion since the late 1990's.
- How to contact me…..My professional portfolio with
samples of my work, including my resumé, is available at www.logan-news.com/yo_post.html.
