NOTE: Book club meetings are for UUX SIG members only.

The UUX Book Club discussion of Indi Young's book, "Mental Models, Aligning Design Strategy with Human Behavior," is being rescheduled to the first week in December.
"Mental Models" had the most votes in our poll, but the Nov. 18 date didn't draw enough participation. So if that meeting didn't fit your schedule, you have a second chance! What do you think about Young's approach to designing the user experience? Would her ideas work for you? Do you want to try new methods, or do you think yours are far better? How do her ideas compare with others?
MEETING TIME & DATEPerhaps her ideas have had an effect on our thinking, because we're adopting a different strategy to set up this meeting.
First, it will be in the late afternoon or early evening, depending on your location.
4–5 pm, US Pacific
6–7 pm, US Central
7–8 pm, US East
Second, the date—Dec. 1, Tuesday, or Dec. 2, Wednesday—will be determined by your votes. Use this
form to vote. We hope the new time and choice of dates will allow more people to participate. Because there is such a short window for making a decision, the cut-off for sign-ups will be next Monday, November 23. We'll send out notices immediately to let you all know the date.
BOOK SOURCES"Mental Models" is available at
Rosenfeld Media, the publisher, who is giving UUX members a discount on this book through Dec. 1, 2009. The discount is approximately 25%, which offsets the cost of ordering the book by expedited delivery. Rosenfeld Media also offers a PDF format version, which is about half the cost of the print version and available quickly. To receive the discount, use the code UXBOOKUUX when you order.
ABOUT THE MEETINGMary Deaton, our SIG Manager, will be moderating (see her
review of the book in the STC UUX Community Newsletter,
Usability Interface).
Please be sure to vote for the date if you'd like to join the discussion (the voting form will also take your email address as an indication of interest). The vote and sign-up are necessary to know if there is interest in discussing the book. They are separate from signing up for the book club.
BOOK CLUB SIGN-UPSign Up for the Book Club at any time. There's no commitment involved, it just puts you on the book club mailing list. If you're signing up so you can attend the Dec. meeting, please
email me so I can include you in the notices.
I hope you'll be able to join us at the next meeting!
