Vacation is over Summer is almost gone and so are the days of trying not to think about all of the things that need doing here in the UUX SIG. We will hold elections this fall for officers, who will begin their term of office in January. We are beginning the budgeting process for 2010 and plan to propose a continuation of Web seminars, our new virtual book club, and an active presence at the 2010 STC Summit. Speaking of which... Time to begin planning for STC Summit 2010 I know, it is September and the Summit is in May 2010. SIG leaders have already been discussing plans for networking events and business meetings, and now it is time to submit proposals. Do you have ideas for a workshop? paper? panel? progression? Details on how to submit proposals are located at http://www.softconference.com/subs/stc/2010/ . Proposals are submitted online. If you want to discuss your ideas with other UUX members or recruit co-presenters, send a note to our mailing list at stcusesig_l@mailman.stc.org. If you are not already on the mailing list, you will find details on how to join at http://www.stcsig.org/usability/activities/listfaq.html. Presenters at the STC Summit receive a discounted registration rate to help ensure they are able to attend and give their presentation. Site redesign still needs volunteers Redesign of the UUX Web site has begun. A site inventory is complete and web analytics for 2009 have been collected and are being analyzed. Expect to be contacted for input about how you want the site to change. This early planning is critical to making the effort successful, but even more critical is finding UUX members with experience in site design and development who can help with creating a design and implementing it. We also intend to have lots of user research done along the way. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the SIG; it is also a great chance to add a new Web project to your resume or learn new Web skills. Whether you are an old-hand at Web design or a novice who wants to learn more, we need your help. Send me, mmdeaton@mmdeaton.com an email and tell me about your skills and experience and how you think you can best help. Include your phone number and I will call you to talk about details. |
